Clay Township consists of three major public service agencies. The Mainland has the Clay Township Police Department and the Clay Township Fire Department. Harsens Island has the Harsens Island Fire Department and is patrolled by the Clay Township Police Department.

Supervisor Artie Bryson and the Clay Township Police Department would like to announce a new initiative to help citizens reduce the on-line fraud such as purchases from Craigs List. The Police Department is announcing OPERATION SAFE ZONE. This is where individuals can come to the Clay Township Police Department Lobby to finish their exchange of merchandise and money and feel safe. The Lobby is recorded 24 hours a day and will be open for transactions from 8AM until 9PM seven days a week.
We hope to eliminate or reduce violence and fraud to our citizens. Citizens should be leery of people who refuse to meet at the police station. We find that sellers do not like the concept of coming to the police station if they are not honest, have a warrant out for themselves or plan on deceiving or robbing a citizen of their money. Often times if items are stolen one would be very hesitant to bring it to the Police Station.

Rx Drug Disposal Program:
Asof June 1, 2011 the Clay Township Police Department is implementing a continuous program to collect unwanted prescription drugs. We will collect the unwanted prescriptions free of charge, no questions asked.
The drop off location will be at the Clay Township Police Dept. located at 4710 Pte Tremble Rd. for Clay Twp residents. Clay Township can be a safer community by turning in these potentially dangerous drugs so they are not consumed or distributed accidentally or illegally.
Please follow the below listed guidelines:
- We will not accept any needles
- Remove the prescription drugs from their original containers
- Place contents in clear plastic zip lock bag
- Deliver the unwanted medications to the Clay Twp Police Dept.

Michigan's Emergency Vehicle Caution Law
Be Aware! Michigan's Emergency Vehicle Caution Law: On two lane roads, the operator of a vehicle traveling on a roadway which only has one lane of travel for each direction shall, upon approaching a stationary emergency vehicle with its emergency lights activated, carefully move over into the open adjacent lane if possible. If this is not possible due to traffic, weather, or road conditions, the operator shall slow down and pass with caution, allowing vehicle as much space as possible.

Emergency Sirens
There are three emergency sirens located at the intersections of Fruit and Nook Roads, Ainsworth and Taft, as well as M-29 and Willow Court. These emergency sirens will be activated during all life threatening and potentially hazardous emergencies that affect Clay Township.
These warnings shall include such as tornados, chemical spills and homeland security issues. In emergencies the sirens will be activated for three continuous minutes. If possible the public should immediately go indoors, close all windows, doors and turnoff all air conditioners and/or furnaces. It is further recommended that citizens turn on radio station WSAQ 107.1 for additional information and updates. The first Monday of each month at 1:00 p.m., the Clay Township Police Department will activate a test of these warning sirens for one continuous minute.
