The last day to pay 2023 Property Tax to Clay Township was 2/29/24. Please contact the St Clair County Treasurer for information on all delinquent property tax, 810-989-6915.
The 2024 Summer Tax is levied and payable on July 1, 2024. The last day to pay without interest is September 16, 2024.
The 2024 Winter Tax is levied and payable on December 1, 2024. The last day to pay without penalty is February 14, 2025.

Payment Options
ELECTRONIC PAYMENTS
Payments made by debit/credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover and American Express) or electronic check are accepted for TAXES from July 1st until the last day of February, in the township office (M-TH) and online at the following link, ONLINE TAX PAYMENT. Credit card payments are processed by a third-party payment processing company, Invoice Cloud. Invoice Cloud offers this service for a fee. The fee to make a payment using a debit/credit card is 2.95% of the payment amount, minimum $1.95. The fee to make an e-check payment using your checking account is $0.95. If you have any questions regarding your processed payment, please call the Treasury Department at 810-794-9303 or send an email to onlinebilling@claytwpmi.gov .
*Auto-pay is NOT available for payment of property tax.

If an additional receipt is required, include a self-addressed, stamped envelope with your payment. ***Due to issues with mail service, it is recommended that you allow a minimum of 10 business days for delivery *Postmarks are not accepted as on-time payments.

***Returned/rejected checks/online payments will be assessed a $15 return fee. If a check is returned after the tax due date, the amount owing is subject to interest/penalty and future payments will be applied to outstanding fees prior to crediting your tax bill.
***If paying with a check drawn from a Canadian bank, please include an additional $15 with your payment.

The township does not offer a payment plan for taxes. However, we will accept as many partial payments as necessary for the payment of your taxes. Summer tax payments are accepted July 1 through the last day of February. Winter tax payments are accepted December 1 through the last day of February. *Interest &/or penalty will be applied to any outstanding balance remaining after the original due date. The township cannot accept payments for real property beginning March 1st.
Deferment Information
The Michigan General Property Tax Act allows certain citizens to DEFER their summer property taxes. To qualify for the deferment, a township resident must have a household income below $40,000 and meet one or more of the following conditions:

***Approval of the Application for Deferment of Summer Taxes defers the due date without penalty until February 14. It does not lower or eliminate the tax.

Delinquent Real Property Tax Information
The township collects real property taxes for the current tax year only. On March 1 real property taxes can no longer be paid at the township. Real property taxes not paid prior to March 1 will be surrendered as DELINQUENT to the St Clair County Treasurer’s Office for continued collection. Interest and administration fees will be incurred. *US postmarks will not be accepted as on-time payments.

It is recommended that you call St Clair County Treasurer’s office prior to mailing your payment for delinquent property taxes, the treasurers office can be reached by phone at 810-989-6915 or online at http://stclaircounty.org/offices/treasurer
Public Act 123 of 1999 shortens the amount of time property owners have to pay their delinquent taxes before losing their property. Property owners with taxes that are two years delinquent will be foreclosed and the property will be sold at public auction within the third year.
